Sensei Shannon Norton

Instructor, 3rd Dan Black Belt Karate, 2nd Degree Black Kickboxing

Instructor Head Office Bentleigh

Shannon began training in martial arts in 2011, inspired by a passion for fitness and weightlifting, combined with a strong interest in learning karate and developing self-defence skills. With friends already training at All Stars, it was the perfect opportunity to take up martial arts and integrate it into a healthy, active lifestyle.

He has since earned a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Karate and a 2nd Dan in Kickboxing, training exclusively within the All Stars system.

As an instructor, Shannon finds real satisfaction in seeing students learn, grow, and gain confidence. Watching their skills develop over time—and ensuring they enjoy the process—makes teaching deeply rewarding.

For Shannon, martial arts is about personal growth, both physically and mentally. He stays motivated by setting personal goals and embracing the discipline of consistent training.

His advice to beginners: enjoy the process and trust the journey. Progress takes time, and every step—no matter how small—is a valuable part of your development.

Sensei Adam Tabachowitz

Instructor, 3rd Dan Black Belt Karate

Instructor Head Office Bentleigh

Adam began his martial arts journey as a 4-year-old in the Saturday morning Peewees class. What started as a fun weekend activity soon grew into a lifelong passion. The games and activities kept him engaged as a child, and as he got older, he discovered the deeper rewards of learning new techniques, refining kata, and constantly striving to improve.

Today, Adam is a 3rd Dan Black Belt, with many memorable moments shaping his journey—such as helping teach classes on Saturday mornings at the old dojo, his first Dan grading where he was inspired by the senior black belts testing at higher levels, and attending his first seminar with Sensei Steve Nedelko, which opened his eyes to the depth and detail behind kata.

As an instructor, Adam values how teaching strengthens his own learning. Guiding students requires understanding techniques from multiple perspectives, and every mistake—whether made by the student or the teacher—becomes an opportunity for growth.

His advice to students is clear: push yourself, but always look after your body. Stretching and warming up are essential, and for those aiming to become black belts, regular practice—whether at home or before class—makes all the difference.

Looking to the future, Adam hopes to continue his journey as a Sensei, run his own classes, and keep developing his skills while perfecting his techniques and katas.

Jenaya_Feature_3 (1)

Dai Senpai Jenaya Ngoma

Instructor, 2nd Dan Black Belt Karate, Brown Kickboxing

Instructor Head Office Bentleigh

Jenaya’s martial arts journey has been filled with life-changing experiences and a strong sense of belonging. Some of her most memorable moments include Fight Nights, grading days, and the day she achieved her Black Belt—a milestone she celebrated by proudly wearing it for 72 hours straight. Receiving her Ishoa Cross is another highlight she will always remember. For Jenaya, martial arts is more than rank or belt colour—there is always something new to learn.

Through training, Jenaya has built lifelong friendships, confidence, and resilience. She has also developed leadership qualities that extend beyond the dojo, helping her grow as both a student leader and school tour ambassador. Outside of martial arts, Jenaya is a dedicated competitive dancer, having won multiple awards, including a National Title with her troupe in Adelaide.

Jenaya’s advice to beginners is to always accept the advice of those around you, be kind to your training partners, and never be too hard on yourself. She believes martial arts is as much about personal growth as it is about skill.

The greatest lessons she carries with her are kindness, respect, and self-improvement. Martial arts has taught her emotional control, breathing techniques for managing stress, and strong communication and leadership skills—all of which continue to shape her both inside and outside the dojo.

chaim

Kru Chaim Avinu

Instructor, 3rd Degree Black Kickboxing

Instructor Head Office Bentleigh

Chaim began his martial arts journey as an adult, inspired by the desire to learn self-defence, build confidence, and gain the ability to protect both himself and those around him. What started as a search for practical skills grew into a lifelong passion for training, discipline, and personal growth.

Over the years, he has trained across multiple styles, earning a Black Belt in Kyu Shin Ryu Ninjutsu, a Brown Belt in Shukokai Karate, and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Muay Thai.

As an instructor, Chaim finds joy in passing down the knowledge of his styles and helping students grow, achieve, and even exceed their goals. He values being a mentor and finds satisfaction in watching others succeed on their martial arts journey.

The most valuable lesson martial arts has taught him is that true confidence means knowing you don’t need to fight—but having the skills to act if necessary. His motivation comes from the friendships and sense of family he has built within All Stars, as well as the constant opportunity to keep learning.

Chaim’s advice to beginners is simple: patience. Progress happens at its own pace, and the journey is about enjoying the process, not comparing yourself to others.

Dai Senpai James Anzarut

Instructor, 3rd Dan Black Belt Karate

Instructor Head Office Bentleigh / Elwood

Instructor Profile – James Anzarut

James began his martial arts journey in 1994 at the age of 8, inspired by the martial arts action of the TV series Monkey Magic. Although his early training only lasted a few years, the passion to continue never left him, and in 2009 he returned to karate as an adult with All Stars.

He has trained in both modern and traditional systems, including time under Sensei Sinn Chew at the University of Queensland Karate School, where he entered the Kenkyukai—an advanced study group of traditional Goju Ryu. James now holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Freeform Goju Ryu Karate, a 2nd Dan in Traditional Goju Ryu (Kenkyukai), and a 2nd Degree in Thai Kickboxing (All Stars).

As an instructor, James is passionate about sharing the best practices he has learned throughout his journey, while helping students develop both skill and understanding. For him, teaching is not only about guiding others but also a vital part of his own growth as a martial artist.

The greatest lesson James has learned is to enjoy every stage of the journey. He stays motivated by his constant desire to improve, always finding new areas to refine and explore.

His advice to beginners is simple yet powerful: ask questions, stay curious, and fully engage with the art. Martial arts, he believes, is a living cultural exchange that grows stronger when practitioners at every level commit to learning and sharing.

Now a valued assistant instructor, Noah brings a calm and focused energy to every class. He especially enjoys teaching the finer details of karate and helping students improve one small step at a time. His martial arts journey has taught him the importance of patience and how to control his strength, both on and off the mats.

Noah stays motivated because, simply put, karate is fun. His advice to students?
“Always pay attention to the rules and stay focused during class – it makes a big difference.”

Currently a brown belt working toward her first tip, Ava has also taken part in kickboxing sessions through state training days. She was originally inspired to start karate to build knowledge in self-defence and practical fighting techniques that could be applied in real-world situations.

As an assistant instructor, Ava enjoys connecting with students and supporting them as they grow. She believes martial arts has taught her the importance of discipline and persistence—qualities that have helped her develop greater mental stability when facing challenges in life. Her advice to new students is to take things at their own pace and not to compare themselves to others, because everyone progresses differently and that’s completely okay.

With over a decade of experience, she brings both skill and dedication to her training and teaching.

She believes that consistency is the most important lesson martial arts has taught her, and she stays motivated by visualizing her next goal and reflecting on how far she’s come. Her advice to new students is simple and encouraging: everyone starts somewhere, and there’s always something to learn from others.

Senpai Daniel Younan

Assistant Instructor, 1st Dan Black Belt Karate

Assistant Instructor Head Office Bentleigh

I began training in karate at the age of four, and the smile from my very first lesson has kept me motivated ever since. I love working with younger students and seeing the joy and confidence they gain as they progress.

In every class, I aim to build a respectful and supportive environment where everyone helps each other become the best martial artist they can be. Throughout my journey, I’ve trained under different instructors and in new locations, but my commitment to learning and improving has never wavered.

To continue developing my own skills, I regularly practice at home and attend training days. My goal is to keep advancing in my martial arts journey while helping the next generation grow through theirs.

Outside of martial arts, I enjoy golf, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
